Driver assistance features are abundant on today’s cars, including on all the new cars that you’ll find at your Chevy dealership. These car safety features get better and more intuitive with each year that passes and will benefit every driver even on the shortest of trips.

1. Forward Collision Alert
Things can happen in a heartbeat when you’re driving. Sometimes you just won’t notice a hazard in your path and need a little alert from your car to tell you about it. If the car ahead of you stops suddenly and it seems like you’re going to hit it, then your Chevy will make you aware of it. You’ll also receive an alert if there’s a pedestrian or bicyclist in your path with some Chevy models.

Your Chevy can also apply the brakes to prevent collisions if you don’t have time to respond to the alert. When it comes to potential collisions, you’ve basically got a second set of eyes on the road at all times.

2. Lane Keep Assist
Sometimes you may end up drifting a little too close to the next lane. Your Chevy is always on the lookout for that happening, and the car can let you know when you seem to be drifting unintentionally out of your lane. The car corrects your steering to get you back into the center of the correct lane if necessary.

3. Following Distance Indicator
Knowing more about how closely you’re following the car ahead of you is always a good thing. The following distance indicator built into many Chevy vehicles estimates how many seconds it would take you to crash into the car ahead if that car were to stop. This can help you adjust how closely you’re following the vehicle in front of you if you need to.

4. Surround Vision and Rear Vision Cameras
The surround-vision camera view lets you see what’s going on around the car in all directions. This helps with parking and avoiding hazards while driving in tight areas. Meanwhile, the rear vision camera gives you a direct feed of what’s going on right behind you. This is most helpful when you’re reversing into a parking space.

5. Rear Cross Traffic Alert
Sometimes somebody may drive out behind you while you’re reversing, and you won’t always notice right away because this can happen fast. Your car can send you an alert when somebody’s driving up behind you from the left or right while you’re backing up.
