There are 7 miles of hiking trails and 2 miles of biking trails through the woods that surround the park. During spring, summer, and fall months, you can enjoy boating, canoeing, or kayaking on Lake Sakakawea.
Little Missouri State Park
Little Missouri State Park, located about 15 miles west of Dickinson on Highway 1804, is a popular destination for camping, hiking, and fishing. The park offers scenic overlooks of the Little Missouri River Valley, as well as canoeing and kayaking on the river. The park’s visitor center has a museum with exhibits on the park’s wildlife and history.
Little Missouri State Park is open year-round, but during the winter months, it is only accessible by snowmobile or cross-country skis.
Lake Sakakawea State Park
Lake Sakakawea State Park is one of the most beautiful parks that is located near Dickinson. Lake Sakakawea State Park is a 4,285-acre park with a wide variety of activities to offer. The park has many picnic areas and campsites, as well as hiking trails and boat ramps.
There are also some other attractions within the park, including a visitor center and the Fort Clark Trading Post Museum. The visitor center has exhibits on the history and natural history of the area. The Fort Clark Trading Post Museum features artifacts from Native Americans who lived in this area hundreds of years ago.
Lewis and Clark State Park
Lewis and Clark State Park is located just west of Dickinson. It is on the Missouri River and offers beautiful views of the river. The park also has a visitor center with exhibits about Lewis and Clark. There are over three miles of hiking trails that wind through the woods and along the riverbank.
The park has 191 campsites, so you can enjoy your stay at the park for several days or weeks. If you like to fish, there are plenty of opportunities to catch your own dinner. There are also two boat ramps so that you can launch your boat and head out onto the water for some fun in the sun!
