4 Spring Activities You Can Drive to Near Dickinson, ND

Spring is here in North Dakota! The weather is finally starting to get nice and sunny, days are getting long, and Dickinson doesn’t yet have the crowds of tourists from all over the world that you’ll find in the summer. So for us North Dakotans, it’s a time to take advantage of the beautiful state we live in, and make the good days last! Here are our favorite spring activities near Dickinson, ND that you should check out.

1. Theodore Roosevelt National Park

The most famous natural attraction in the Badlands, Theodore Roosevelt National Park draws over three-quarters of a million visitors per year, but you’ll beat the crowds and have the famous 70,000-acre national park mostly to yourself if you go in the springtime!

So take a drive to the national park and enjoy the famous sunsets, sunrises, canyons, rivers, and pine forests under the springtime sun. You’ll find that wild animals, such as the famous buffalo, are likely to be on the move during the spring, so keep your eyes open!

2. Patterson Lake

Just a couple of miles outside downtown Dickinson, Patterson Lake is another excellent place to visit in the springtime, with all the lakefront vegetation in full bloom and the green surroundings coming to life.

If you’re into fishing, spring is also the ideal fishing season at Patterson Lake, so come out with your rod and boat and catch some fish before they start hiding in the summer! Or if camping is your thing, Patterson Lake offers over 30 campsites that open in the spring and can be found at 3753 114th Avenue.

3. Camels Hump Lake

We can’t talk about the beautiful lakes in the area without also recommending Camels Hump Lake. Though it’s a bit further of a drive away, outdoor enthusiasts should definitely take the extra drive out here to experience this remote lake tucked within the picturesque Dakotan grassland and canyonland.

Come in springtime for the peak season to go fishing, wildlife watching (you’re bound to see cranes and other waterfowl), and canoeing.

4. Little Missouri National Grassland

Spring is the ideal time to visit the famous Dakotan grasslands, with flowers in bloom, bright blue sunny skies, and large land animals coming out of their winter hibernation. And America’s largest grassland, Little Missouri National Grassland, is just a short drive from us here in Dickinson!

This park is huge, at almost 420,000 acres, so you’ll want a good car to explore it. And if the weather’s nice, pop the sunroof down and go on a safari!

To properly enjoy the great outdoors, you’re going to need a car that can get you most of an outdoor road trip. One built for off-roading, pulling a trailer for your canoes, and perhaps with a sunroof to enjoy the spring weather. So before you hit the outdoors this spring, come down to Sax Motor Co right in Dickinson and pick up an outdoors-ready car, like the all-new Chevy Silverado.
